In today’s society, the engagement ring has become a symbol of love, devotion, and ultimate commitment to another human being. It is one of the most important icons of our time, but many different cultures from different eras had an impact on the engagement ring, as we know it today.  The circular shape resembles that of our fiery sun or a snow-white full moon. Ancient cultures saw this as a symbol of unison, perfection, and infinity. There have been many theories, which talk about how the engagement ring came about. One of these theories states that the first symbol of an impending betrothal was probably some kind of woven cord of rushes or leather. A man used this cord to tie the hands and feet of a woman, so she could not get away from him. Once convinced she was going to stay for good, he untied her feet and hands and wrapped it around her finger.
